Benue Student Leader Shot By Gunmen Yesterday

The President of the National Union of Benue State Students, Tyonor Smith was shot by gunmen yesterday in Makurdi.

According to Punch, the student leader was shot at the gate of the Benue State University College of Health Sciences while on his way out of the school.

He was said to have been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment.

Confirming the report, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Catherine Anene, said Smith was shot by unknown gunmen at the gate of the State University College of Health Sciences.

She explained that Smith is involved in campus politics, and the students’ union election was around the corner saying his opponent(s) may be responsible for the act.

Anene maintained that the command had launched investigations to unravel those who shot the students’ leader. She added that no arrest had been made.

She added that the NUBESS president was in a stable condition.
